How this fits his career

San Francisco follows his 2025 Dallas defensive-coordinator tenure and his 2022–2024 Chicago head-coaching tenure. This page describes his current appointment; it does not suggest he has been fired by the 49ers.

What we watch as fans

A new title changes the scope of a coach’s job. Our coverage should judge the work attached to that role rather than assign him responsibility for an entire organization. Team announcements and the official roster are the checks on whether that role changes.

For the departures that are documented, read the Bears and Cowboys pages. The history overview connects those chapters.
